Living Without Law Is Glorious-Video 1

Living Without Law Is Glorious-Video 1

Paul calls God’s law ‘the ministry of condemnation’ (II Cor 3:9).
It is the difference between life and spiritual death (Rom 8:2, II Cor 3:6).

This is where guilt and fear are born and takes root, which destroys faith and confidence in God. We cannot live in peace and joy as ministers to God, if we live in law (Gal 2:19), and righteousness goes out the window, so the gospel of God’s Kingdom is hidden to us (Rom 14:17). This series of 9 videos will show what the New Testament says has been done with God’s law.
(Scripture references are found in the written text following the video).

THE PRINTED TEXT

We are told through Christian polls and studies that somewhere over 90% of all Christians live by the law, or by some form of law. You see, law is easy for us to understand because we live in a culture that has so many laws we can’t even count them all.

A U.S. Supreme Court judge says we now have 10 million laws
. . . . to enforce the 10 commandments.

10 million laws in the US today

Today, we have become more sophisticated and don’t say we live by law, but by perhaps principles, precepts, standards, methods, or formulas. They sound less-demanding but they are by nature still living by some form of law. We begin with a premise that we obey or put into practice in our lives. This is living by law.

Paul says even those of us who are not under the law and subject to it, are so legal-minded that we tend create our own laws (Rom 2:14). We invent our own laws. Isn’t that crazy? We like to know if we are winning or losing, and it seems that living by law is at least one way to calculate a win-lose score in life – how good are we doing, or not doing?

Jesus says that the law was not meant to exist forever. It was only meant to exist until John the Baptist (Luke 16:16), and John died before Jesus did. Jesus and John lived at the same time. They were even cousins. So at the time of the death of Jesus, there was no longer any of God’s law at all. It was retired. It was abolished, as Paul says.

The law was meant to be burned up

Paul of course agrees with Jesus, but he puts it differently. He says the law was only meant to exist until the ‘seed’ should come. But then he says that the seed was Jesus (Gal 3:16, 18).

So, from both the mouth of the Lord Jesus, and also his specially chosen gospel teacher, Paul, the law does not exist after the death of Jesus and John the Baptist. Didn’t they die 2,000 years ago? If so, the law should have been set aside 2,000 years ago, right?

The intent of this session on the law is to show that none of us should be living by the Old Testament law of God, and also how many times . . . how many times . . . I’ll say it again: how many times we are told this. Yet, most of us don’t listen. We don’t hear what we are told. We often only hear what we expect to hear, and not what is actually said.

Paul says that if we want to LIVE unto God, we must be DEAD to the law (Gal 2:19). That is very specific. It really can’t be MIS-interpreted. It’s an either-or choice: (1) live for God, (2) live for law.
