Living Without Law Is Glorious-Video 2

Living Without Law Is Glorious-Video 2

Paul calls the law of God ‘the ministry of condemnation’ (II Cor 3:9).
It is the difference between life and spiritual death (Rom 8:2, II Cor 3:6).

The law of God is where guilt and fear are born and takes root, which destroys faith and confidence in God. We cannot live in peace and joy as ministers to God, if we live in law (Gal 2:19), and righteousness goes out the window, so the gospel of God’s Kingdom is hidden to us (Rom 14:17). This series of 9 videos will show what the New Testament gospel says has been done with God’s law, and the blessings that are ours if we live it.
(Scripture references are found in the written text following the video).

THE PRINTED TEXT

I have a premise that I can’t really prove in scripture, but I think one reason God changed things from the law of God in the Old Testament to the gospel of the New Testament was to test us and see if we would trust him.

The law had existed for centuries before Jesus. Then when Jesus came, he brought the gospel and said we should only believe and live by it (Mark 1:14-15). I wonder if God doesn’t test us to see if we’ll follow Jesus, trust him, and believe what he says, as he says to.

Paul calls the law “the ministry of condemnation” (II Cor 3:6). This can mean the ministry of guilt.

The law hits us between the eyes with condemnation and guilt. We are told there is now NO condemnation if we are in Christ in the gospel. But when we live by the law, it will produce condemnation and guilt in us, even though we are not supposed to have it. This is part of the test: if we insist on living by law, then God says we’ll have to live in condemnation and guilt.

Living by law has the effect of blocking any revelation of God’s love to us, which was talked about in the first session. If we are living in law, God’s love is evicted from our lives. If we see ourselves as under law and in sin, our reasoning and logic tells us God cannot love us. How can God love a bad person? This is why we are not meant to live in law.

We cannot grow and develop in living other aspects of the gospel truth if we live in law. This is because law blocks us knowing God’s UN-conditional love for us, and it blocks us from being absolutely, totally sure of our salvation, as we discussed in the last session.

The law does a head trip on us that HURTS us. Thus, Father sent Jesus with the gospel to BLESS us (Acts 3:36).

Living by law really does a number on us that can’t be overcome. It seems like we’re buried under piles of what can be called ‘religious do – do,’ and we can’t get out from underneath all the religious do – do. Thus Paul says we are CURSED if we live by the Old Testament law (Gal 3:10). He calls us FOOLS if we live by it (Gal 3:1-4).

These sessions on the law will show what God says about us NOT living by his Old Testament law, and then after these sessions on the law, we’ll talk about how much of a BENEFIT the gospel of the New Covenant is to us. I’ll close with what I closed with last time, just to make sure you get it: In order to LIVE unto God we must be DEAD to the law (Gal 2:19).
