Knowing God’s Love – Video 1

This is Video 1 on Knowing God’s Love.

Home of 3 Minute Gospel Coaching!
In Video and Power Point!

We must know the love of God, deep in our hearts,
so we are filled with all the fullness of God as Paul
says in Ephesians 3. He describes this as knowing
the breadth, length, depth and height of God’s love.

When we know God’s love in personal experience,
it opens up all the other aspects of the gospel for us.
Everything good begins in knowing God’s love for us.

Here is the printed text of the video with scripture references:

The very first thing we must believe and receive in the gospel, and one of the hardest things for us, is that God’s love for us is unconditional — meaning he puts no conditions on us for him to love us. Most of us read the Bible as being very conditional, and we are also conditional in our thinking, and in our love for others. We even read rules and conditions into the New Testament. As a lawyer, I can tell you we are all very legal minded. This is why, as a lawyer, the gospel is such an awesome revelation to me, and it’s why I call myself ‘The Gospel Life Coach.’

The New Testament gospel is a revelation to us of (1) all that God has done for us, — and (2) all that he is doing for us now, — and (3) all that he has planned for us in his future heaven. It’s not about US… it’s about GOD, and we are told all God does for us is more than our minds can think or even imagine (Eph 3:20, I Cor 2:9-10). This is why we’re told that our work, or our job, is just to believe what Jesus says (John 6:29).  And he says to only believe his gospel, which he explains in his parables.

The more we think the Bible is written to us as a set of rules, or laws, — the less we will know and receive God’s love for us. This is because any type of law or rules shows us what is WRONG with us.

But the gospel shows us what is RIGHT about us,
because of two things:
(1) God’s grace, and
(2) the finished work of the cross of Jesus.

This is why you can’t combine the Old and New Testaments. Paul says to rightly divide them — or separate them (II Tim 2:15). Paul’s whole ministry was to proclaim the gospel of the grace of God (Acts 20:24). So Paul always COMPARED the Old and New Covenants. He did not COMBINE them. And in the New Covenant gospel he says ALL THINGS are made totally new from what they were in the Old (II Cor 5:17). He says when we try to understand the New Testament by using the Old Testament in any way, it’s like we have a blanket over our hearts that won’t let us to receive all the free things of God’s gospel, which begins with knowing God’s love. (II Cor 3:15-17).

The Old Testament law demanded from us what it could not produce, and Peter says everyone who tried to live it failed (Acts 15:10). Paul agrees, and says NO one was righteous in the Old Testament, and no one understood the ways of God, or how to connect with him (Rom 3:10-12).

The New Testament gospel causes us to know God’s love deep inside, especially when Jesus declares that his Father loves us as much as he does him (John 17:23). Plus all of the gifts and blessings he gives us, and to know that his love does not depend on what we do. His love for us is all because of our belief and trust in Jesus. When we know this, then we become like little children, as Jesus says to be, and when we trust him, and live his gospel, it can reveal even more of our Abba Father’s love to us.
